Some Ghanaian teachers at the Basic level embarked on a peaceful protest to demand payment of arrears at the Ministry of Education today.
In an interview between a member of the protest group, Adusei Mershack, a teacher at Brong Ahafo and a reporter for the roads were.com, it was discovered that the Government is owing them. “I was there last week, and the Ministry of Education said they have cleared all these legacy arrears, but none of us have received these monies they said have been cleared, so Government should look through”, said Adusei Mershack.
The group revealed that they are not fighting for salary increment, but are on this course purposely to claim the monies which have not been paid. Some members said they have worked for a year and have received four months salary. “Currently, we are receiving our salaries, but what we are looking out for is the arrears”, a member disclosed.
They were all uniformly dressed in red and black. According to sources, they are teachers from different regions.
