The 38th National Farmer’ Day celebrations, is set to take place from today, November 29, to Friday, December 2, 2022, at Koforidua’s Jubilee Park in the Eastern Regional capital, as the celebration have been launched.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Accelerating Agriculture Development through Value Addition.”

An agricultural fair and expo begins the celebration in conjunction with the Agriculture Development Bank Farmers’ Forum, and the celebration will climax on Friday, December 2, 2022, with a spectacular durbar and awards ceremony. The honorable special guest will be the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), the ministry has evaluated how National Farmers' Day is celebrated due to the current national and international economic challenges

According to the evaluation, a total of 15 awards will be given at the national level, including the National Best Farmer Overall, National Best Farmer 1st Runner-Up, National Best Farmer 2nd Runner-Up, National Best Livestock Farmer, National Best Crop Farmer, National Best Fisher Overall, National Best Marine Fisher, National Best Inland Fisher, National Best Fisher Farmer, and National Best Fish Processor.

The other winners include the National Best Coffee Farmer, National Best Shea Nut Picker, National Best Most Promising Young Cocoa Farmer, National Best Most Business-minded Cocoa Farmer.

This year, the regional celebrations were reinstated as a cost-saving measure to lessen the financial burden on the 16 regional coordinating councils, which had previously paid for the travel, lodging, and meals of regional award winners and other accompanying officials to attend the national celebration.

There will be five regional award categories for each region: Best Farmer, Best Livestock Farmer, Best Crop Farmer, Best Fisher, and Best Agricultural Extension Agent.

District Best Farmer, District Best Livestock Farmer, and District Best Crop Farmer are the new, reduced award categories, which were previously six per district.

Who will succeed Alhaji Mashud Mohammed as the National Best Farmer in 2021? As the event culminates on Friday, December 2, 2022, only time will tell.
