Zenu-NewYork, a town in the Kpone Katamkanso District starts construction of gutters in the verge to prevent erosion of the soil.

Zenu NewYork, according to some residents has been tagged as a rejected town. Bad roads and depletion of the soil have been the order of the day, especially in the wet season. Interviewing some residents, it has been discovered that developmental projects only take place when an election is due, presidential elections to be precise. This year in the month of June, a school named Messiah Inclusive School brought up the initiative of constructing gutters in order to serve as a passageway for wastewater and downpour of rain. The headmistress of the School deployed some masons and labourers to commerce the construction.

The gutter was constructed from the school and went down the street. With the commencement of this initiative, the residents of the town embraced it with joy and also helped in continuing the good work.

Are there any developmental projects going on as it is the case in an election year? The District Assembly, through the office of the Member of Parliament, has started the construction of gutters from the Ataadeka township to the NewYork township. The construction, has, however, led to the demolition of fence wall and structures which has not gone through proper layout.

The initiative of the residents of the Zenu-NewYork is a wake-up call to communities who solely rely on government intervention for projects all the time. Their action will go a long way to reduce or prevent erosion of the soil. Nation-building requires the collective efforts of all and sundry to help make the nation better.
