System Generated Audio Version (SGAV):
For those of us that may not be fully-aware, the story of Ruth plays a very vital role in the birth of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
The genealogy of Jesus traces back to David; then to Abraham (Matthew 1 : 1 - 17).
Ruth (from the Bible) is the paternal Great-grandmother of David (Ruth 4 : 13 - 22).
The story of Ruth teaches at least two (2) important lessons. There are a couple of "characters" and sequence-of-events which together influenced the happenings in the book of Ruth. I would center my observations on three (3) characters: Ruth, Orpah and Boaz; And I would pick a lesson each from Ruth and Boaz (who later became Ruth's husband).
Ruth was blessed with an immense level of Determination.
After the death of the husbands of both Ruth and Orpah, their mother-in-law (Naomi), decided to leave Moab for Bethlehem (upon hearing the LORD had blessed HIS people in Judah again with good crops). Ruth and Orpah both set-out on the journey to Bethlehem with their mother-in-law but at a point, Naomi asked them to return to their respective family homes and asked of the blessings of GOD for them in finding new husbands. Initially, both Ruth and Orpah declined to return home but after further push from Naomi, Orpah gave-in and left. Now, with this "supposed success" for Naomi, she referenced Orpah's return and asked Ruth to do as her other sister-in-law had done; But Ruth's response to this reference is the absolute shocker. She said (and I quote),
Don't ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; Wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your GOD will be my GOD.
Wherever you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD punish me severely if I allow anything but death to separate us!
Ruth 1 : 16 - 17 (NLT BIBLE).
Now at this point, Naomi (Ruth's mother-in-law) had nothing else to say. This kind of oath-like response could be likened to what is taken during "serious" marriages (or covenants) and with that, Ruth pledged her allegiance and utmost loyalty to Naomi (and ultimately to GOD). What more could Naomi have said that would make Ruth turn back??? 🤔
The bottom line is, Ruth demonstrated total determination, whereas the determination exhibited by Orpah was only partial.
(Which goes to show that if you fully-determine to resist temptations from the devil, at a point, even the devil gets fraustrated and decides to leave you [at least for a while]; just saying...😂)
Boaz had the fruit of patience.
After Naomi's advice to Ruth in Chapter 3, Verses 1-to-4, Boaz (arguably) found himself in a situation which could have allowed him to "easily take advantage" or exploit Ruth's vulnerability. Naomi took a calculated risk with this advice, but she also knew Boaz was a man of integrity and his reputation preceded him. Truly, and as honourable as Boaz was, he made the moral choice. Eventhough he was eager to get married to Ruth, he refused to "cut corners" because of his patience and integrity. He recognized the existence of a closer kinsman-redeemer, who rightfully had the first-right of redemption for Naomi's land and Ruth's hand in marriage. But as patient as Boaz was, he was also very strategic and this reflected in the approach he used in communicating the deal to the unnamed kinsman-redeemer (Ruth 4 : 3 - 10).
Summing things up, be encouraged to practise the level of determination exhibited by Ruth and strive to attain the level of patience demonstrated by Boaz in all your life pursuits. If two separate individuals; One with a high-level of determination and another with patience were brought together by GOD to achieve a significant feat in history, imagine what GOD can make of you if you exhibited both.
Just Imagine...🤔💭
