System Generated Audio Version (SGAV):
If you've ever heard the saying, "What GOD cannot do does not exist" believe it; For it is TRUE!
Sometimes all you've got to do is to say "YES SAR!🫡" or AMEN without even asking how?🤔 or why?🤷♀️
The Bible verse that inspired this post is in 2 Kings 7 : 1 - 2 (and I quote);
1 Elisha replied, "Listen to this message from the LORD! This is what the LORD says: By this time tomorrow in the markets of Samaria, six quarts of choice flour will cost only one piece of silver, and twelve quarts of barley grain will cost only one piece of silver."
2 The officer assisting the king said to the man of GOD, "That couldn't happen even if the LORD opened the windows of heaven!" But Elisha replied, "You will see it happen with your own eyes, but you won't be able to eat any of it!"
How sad; May it never be said unto (or about) us that we saw what The LORD did but couldn't enjoy or taste of it; AMEN!
But What brought about these verses in the first place..?
According to 2 Kings 6 : 24 - 33, an Aramean king named Ben-hadad and his entire army besieged Samaria leading to a very great famine in the city. The siege (and the famine) lasted so long that a donkey's head was sold for 80 pieces of silver and a cup of dove's dung (or bird's droppings) for 5 pieces of silver.
The famine and the intensity of scarcity in the city was severe so much so that two women entered into an agreement to kill and eat their own sons respectively. The first woman's son was to be killed (and eaten) on the first day and the second woman's son killed (and eaten) on the second day.
After the killing (and eating) of the first woman's son, the second woman hid her son to prevent his killing on the second day; So the first woman reported this arrangement and the second woman's default thereof to the king of Israel.
When the king of Israel (who blames GOD for the famine) heard this, he vowed to kill (or actually behead) Elisha, just because he is a prophet (or representative) of GOD.
The king then sent his officer and followed-up himself to the house of Elisha but before they arrived, Elisha already knew what they intended to do to him and he mentioned this to some elders of Israel who were with him in his house.
This was what the king of Israel said upon arriving in Elisha's house:
... "All this misery is from the LORD! Why should I wait for the LORD any longer?"
2 Kings 6 : 33 (b) NLT BIBLE
So in chapter 7 verse 1-to-2, Elisha gave them a 24-Hour prophecy (as stated above in the verse that inspired this post).
Now, the officer assisting the king, looking back at how extremely-harsh their conditions have been from the time of the siege could not believe that in exactly 24-Hours (or less), Israel's situation could change for the better. I don't know what he was thinking; but I can be certain his thoughts were centered-around and limited to one of the "the-usual" ways humans would go about getting food in abundance, which usually takes years of planting, gathering and storing...; And forgetting (or not-knowing) the fact that once GOD steps into a situation, his defined-playbook is to provide "unusual" solutions to usual and unusual problems.
In-effect, How did GOD fulfill Elisha's prophecy..?
From 2 Kings 7 : 3 to 20, the Bible records four men with leprosy disease who sat at the entrance of the city gates; And they asked each other, "Why must we sit here and wait to die?".
They made the following analyses: "We will starve to death if we stay here (at the city gates); We would also die if we go back into the city (as a result of the famine). So we might as well just go and surrender ourselves to the Aramean army. If they spare our lives, that would be better (at least we may get food to eat); But if they kill us, well, we would have died anyway...🤷♀️"
It is worth noting that almost all their analyses ended with a surety of death but at least they chose to die "hopeful".
And accordingly, at twilight, they set out for the Aramean camp; But when they got there, they found no one, "For the LORD had caused the Aramean army to hear the clatter of speeding chariots, the galloping of horses and the sounds of a great army approaching" (though it was just these four leprose men); So the Arameans cried to one another, "The king of Israel has hired the Hittites and Egyptians to attack us", and this made them panick, abandon their camp (or tents and everything in it) and ran into the night "for their lives". HALLELUUUUJAH!🤩
The lepers helped themselves to the food and wine from the Aramean camp as well as plundered their gold, silver and clothing. They finally decided to share this good news to the king of Israel and rest of the city.
Long story short, the people of Israel decided to also plunder the camp. The king of Israel appointed this same officer from verse 2 to control the traffic at the gate but he was knocked down and trampled to death as the people rushed out to plunder "their share" of the Aramean camp.
And so it came to pass, "that six quarts of choice flour were sold on that day for 1 peice of silver and twelve quarts of barley grain were sold also for 1 piece of silver, just as promised by the LORD" and the officer saw all of that unfold but never tasted any of it for the people trampled him to death at the gate!
Two lessons I picked from this study is to be sure that GOD is fully aware of every situation, no matter how bad it may seem and that when HIS time is due, he would redeem HIS people but while we wait on The LORD for a miracle, we must also "say our prayers and make a move!!!"
