Alcohol (ethanol) is the intoxicating ingredient in wine,beer and liquor.
Alcohol has a profound effect on living cells as it can dissolve lipids in cell membranes and destroy cells.
This makes it very toxic and should be avoided.
Alcohol is one of the main risk factors to Non-communicable diseases, malnutrition, infertility,brain disorders, congenital diseases,renal failure etc.
It must be made clear that there isn't any established scientific health benefits of alcohol for individuals below 35 years.However,it maybe beneficial to adults of 35 years and above IF, taken in moderation which include
🔸one drink per day for women
🔸Two drinks per day for men
Remember avoidance is still the best advise.
Gender and genetics accounts for the establishment of such recommendations because men typically produce more enzymes (Alcohol dehydrogenase) to metabolize alcohol.
Any form of alcohol can cause harm or intoxication if consumed in excess.
